Clinical and Endoscopic Characteristics of Granular Cell Tumors of Gastrointestinal Tract
Kim Yong-Seok

Abstract
Granular cell tumors (GCT) of the gastrointestinal tract are rare. The tumor is generally believed to be of neurogenic origin and shows a malignant course in 2~4% of cases. There has been no unanimously accepted therapeutic options preferred. We reviewed the medical records of 15 patients (10 men, 5 women; median age 45.5 years, range 30~75 years) treated for GCT of the gastrointestinal tract in Konyang University Hospital between 2002 and 2008. 9 patients (60%) presented with nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms. Esophagus is the most frequently involved lesion (10/15), especially the middle and distal third (8/10). All of the GCTs were solitary (15/15) and the size of the tumor was estimated 0.79 (Range; 0.4~1.5). There were no malignoncies. The treatment were included excisional biopsy (1/15) and endoscopic polypectomy (10/15).
